THREE KING TRIP MARCH 2010

At the bottom of the page are details about the boat and trip but if your wondering about what it's all about read on!

First up diving at the Kings is not for everyone. The conditions are often demanding with the sea conditions being rough and the dives deep (40 to 50 metres) and often involving decompression stops. However the Kings are my favourite dive site in the world because of the payoff for the difficult conditions is huge. The dives at the Kings are so good they make every thing else look boring. The wall dives are stunning with massive displays of coloured sponges and soft corals. The best cave dive I've seen is here plus of course massive schools of king fish and all this in super clear water (usually). Then of course there's the wreck of Elingamite which sunk in 1902 with TREASURE on board. Fortunately we own the rights to this wreck and a couple of years ago we pulled 25 kilos of silver coins and 12 gold half sovereigns off it which more than paid for the trip in silver value alone (see the photo below).

For the fishing type people the it's great for both the line and spearos but remember this is a dive trip with fishing in between. There's not alot of crays up here but enough for a feed for those that like them.

Situated approximately 55 kilometres north west of the northern most tip of New Zealand's North Island, they provide an opportunity to experience New Zealand's marine environment at it's most raw and beautiful.

The wreck site. In case your wondering those are three metre swells hitting the rocks.

More pretty stuff

Fishings good too

Soft corals and colourfull sponges make the Kings a photographers dream

25 kilos of treasure, 12 'goldies' and 4 happy divers

Trip details

Cost $1950 (Sorry no credit cards for this one). Six full days on the boat, five at the Kings.

$500 deposit when booking and the balance four weeks prior to leaving. Refunds only if a suitable replacement is found or the trip gets cancelled due to weather.

Leaving March 21st, 2010 and returning Saturday 27th

Have the option for a couple of days off work longer than this as if the weather is bad we may put the trip off a couple of days. If the weather is real bad the whole trip will be canned, we won't be sitting on the coast for 6 days, it's the Kings or nothing.

We will be leaving from Hohoura Habour and we will car pool to get up there.

If you want to fish between dives that's no problem but remember this is primarily a dive trip

Treasure rules

Assuming we get some good dives in on the wreck and find a bunch of coins the usual split of coins is as follows. All the coins go in the 'pot'. At the end of the trip the coins are devided evenly with a few going to the skipper and deckie. If you find a gold coin it's yours but find more it/they go in the pot. If a goldie comes up in a large comunal lump of 'crub' the wreck owner (me) gets the first one, then they go in the pot. As there is the occasional person who doesn't want to dive the wreck there are heaps of other dive sites around but you may miss out on a share of the coins (no pain, no gain) .
